• Nilesh is working on his Ph.D thesis since January 2022

  • His research focuses on digital mental health in India, addressing challenges in developing clinically relevant AI methods for underrepresented populations.

    Contributions

  • He received Google PhD Fellowship 2025
  • Adaptive Mental Health Interventions: He leverages reinforcement learning approaches to design and study adaptive mental health interventions, investigating when and how support can be delivered through contextual bandits, user receptivity modeling, and just-in-time adaptive interventions (JITAIs).
  • Wearable and Mobile Sensing for Mental Health: He develops multimodal approaches for understanding anxiety and mental wellbeing using wearable, smartphone, physiological, behavioral, facial, acoustic, and language data, while also creating datasets and benchmarks for digital mental health research.
  • Natural Language Processing and Human-Centered AI for Mental Health: He develops and evaluates language-model-based approaches for mental health assessment and support, including mental state examination summarization, conversational agents, and studies of conversational AI use in real-world mental health settings.
